	Conference Summary: Stabilization and Reconstruction: Closing the Civilian-Military Gap
	The conference, “Stabilization and Reconstruction: Closing the Civilian-Military Gap,” was held in Washington, DC on June 20, 2006. The conference was convened and sponsored by Creative Associates International Inc. The conference co-sponsors were the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies of the National Defense University, the Bush School of Government and Public Service, and the Triangle Institute of Security Studies. The day-long event featured individual speakers and four panel discussions. All addressed some aspect of the relationships between civilian and military participants in stabilization and reconstruction. Participants’ comments were not for attribution, and no individual attributions are given in this conference summary. Aside from the individual talks, the panel topics were: The Role of the U.S. Military in Stability Operations: Opportunities and Challenges, Post-Conflict Policy: How to Enable More Effective Responses, Tailoring the USG Civilian Response: How to Keep Up with the Military, and The Non-Governmental Perspective: How to Move beyond Speaking Past Each Other.
